Treasurer and Finance Committee Chair

Affinity Mentorship Foundation is recruiting a new Treasure to sit on the Board of Directors and chair the Finance Committee. This would be a great opportunity for someone who has a basic grip on financial statements, and accounting processes, and is looking to grow their leadership skills. The committee is already established with committed members and the essential processes are in place to ensure that Affinity runs smoothly.

With a new strategic plan in full swing, volunteering with Affinity Mentorship feels like a start-up experience. There is lots of opportunity for innovation and experimentation which creates a fun and exciting environment. You can feel confident knowing that the current Treasurer will be available to offer support to ensure you are successful.

Position Summary:
The Treasurer is expected to act in the best interest of the Society with respect to the Society’s vision, mission and values. The Treasurer reports to the Board of Directors on all financial matters and advises the Board on financial strategy.

Key Responsibilities:
It is the responsibility of the Treasurer to oversee all financial matters in accordance with appropriate laws, policies and procedures.

General Duties:
•	Maintain the finances of the Society and create and ensure maintenance of a budget for Affinity;
•	Attend Board meetings and report on financial happenings;
•	Ensure policies are in place to control expenditures, to protect the organization against fraud and theft, to ensure prompt banking and make sure policies are being followed; 
•	Make sure the Board understands its financial obligations;
•	Act as one of the signing officers for cheques and other documents;
•	Collaborate with the accountant, if applicable;
•	Prepare the financial statements, along with a second person approved by the Board, and present to the Board for approval;
•	Present the approved financial statements at the Annual General Meeting;
•	File necessary financial reports, tax reports and audits;
•	Chair the Finance Committee;
•	Many other opportunities to lead projects and delegate tasks to committee members and collaborate with other committees as well
Certification or Education Required
Ideally, you will have a CPA or will be working towards having one. However, a degree in business, economics, finance, or a similar area should be helpful but is not mandatory.
