The Calgary World Health Organization Simulation is looking for eager, motivated individuals to join the CalWHO 2018 conference planning team.

CalWHO is an annual 3 day event over the November long weekend that allows students from all disciplines and years of study to participate in WHO-style debate and resolution writing. The simulation not only promotes learning across disciplines, but also provides the opportunity for students to explore pragmatic global health challenges, approaches and solutions.

Successful applicants will have the opportunity to build their CV, while gaining meaningful experience in the field of global health.

Position Descriptions

Executive Assistant: Is responsible for managing conference registration, responding promptly and professionally to all emails received by the CalWHO email account, organizing two team-building events for the secretariat before the conference in November, creating a Gantt chart for the conference with input from the Executive Directors, and following up with the four Directors on Gantt chart deadlines. Time commitment is 5 hours or more per week. Must attend the CalWHO conference in November.

Outreach Director: Is responsible for expanding CalWHO’s promotional channels in Alberta and across North America, distributing promotional content developed in collaboration with the Content Director and Assistant Director through these channels, and organizing CalWHO booths at university orientation (UCalgary, MRU, UAlberta). Also responsible for organizing theme-related opportunities to give back to the community. Will collaborate with and oversee the work of the Outreach Assistant Director. Time commitment is 5 hours or more per week.

Outreach Assistant Director: Will assist with all Outreach Director tasks, or as delegated. Time commitment is 3 hours or more per week. This position requires a two year commitment, with the intention of moving into the Director position the following year.

Finance Director: Is responsible for fund development for CalWHO through sponsorships, donations, and fundraisers. This includes managing the conference budget and putting together business plan. Also responsible for completing annual tax filings. Will collaborate with and oversee the work of the Finance Assistant Director. Time commitment is 5 hours or more per week. Must attend the CalWHO conference in November.

Finance Assistant Director: Will assist with all Finance Director tasks, or as delegated. Time commitment is 3 hours or more per week. Must attend the CalWHO conference in November. This position requires a two year commitment, with the intention of moving into the Director position the following year.

Logistics Director: Is responsible for setting the conference schedule, booking the venue for CalWHO, the catering company and order, the social night out, and the printing required for the conference. Also responsible for organizing conference speakers and the Global Health Fair (incl. booths and posters), and for liaising with the UCMUN team for conference chairs and position papers. Strong interpersonal skills and organization required. Will collaborate with and oversee the work of the Logistics Assistant Director. Time commitment is 5 hours or more per week. Must attend the CalWHO conference in November.

Logistics Assistant Director: Will assist with all Logistics Director tasks, or as delegated. Time commitment is 3 hours or more per week. Must attend the CalWHO conference in November. This position requires a two year commitment, with the intention of moving into the Director position the following year.

Content Director: Is responsible for researching, organizing and creating the CalWHO conference theme guide for delegates. Also responsible for managing, as well as developing content for, the website and all social media accounts, and creating promotional content in collaboration with the Outreach Director and Assistant Director. Strong organization and written/verbal communication skills required. Will collaborate with and oversee the work of the Content Assistant Director. Time commitment is 5 hours or more per week. Must attend the CalWHO conference in November. Background in design and previous experience writing a Model UN-style theme guide preferred. The conference theme is to-be-decided.

Content Assistant Director: Will assist with all Content Director tasks, or as delegated. Time commitment is 3 hours or more per week. Must attend the CalWHO conference in November. This position requires a two year commitment, with the intention of moving into the Director position the following year.
