About us

Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Society (CWRS) was formed in 1993 to rescues and rehabilitate injured and orphaned wildlife in Calgary and the surrounding area. CWRS runs an accredited veterinary clinic, intakes over 2,200 patients a year, responds to thousands of wildlife-related calls from the public and completes hundreds of wildlife education sessions each year.

Who we’re looking for

CWRS is seeking energetic, professional, proactive individuals who are passionate about wildlife to join our Board of Directors. The CWRS Board is a working board for a small organization which means we do more than simply oversee operations, we also roll up our sleeves and help elevate the stature of the organization in ways that align with our skillsets and title. Board members oversee organizational operations to ensure our mandate is being fulfilled, we help raise funds and public awareness, and assist with leadership and general promotion of CWRS in support of our mission and goals. Board members are expected to make a commitment to participate fully in strategic planning, monthly meetings, governance, fund development and tactical activities. 

Board roles and responsibilities
•	Governance
•	Fund development and outreach
•	Organizational leadership and strategic advisement
•	Inspire individual and corporate support
•	Financial management, including oversight of the annual budget
•	Promotion of organization and public awareness
•	Active presence and support at key events

Meetings and time commitment
•	Board members may have monthly committee meetings they are Chairing or attending depending on their role. 
•	Board members that are signers on our accounts will need to be available monthly to sign cheques, this is role dependent.
•	Monthly Board meetings take place in the evenings with rotating hosts. Meetings are typically 90 minutes.
•	The Annual General Meeting in May takes place in lieu of a monthly Board meeting and typically takes 1 hour.
•	Casino fundraiser takes place once every 18 months and each Board member is expected to sign up for one 8-hour shift. 
•	Other events Board members may be encouraged to attend include our Spring Baby Shower and other key fundraising events.
