Do you have a passion for learning about other cultures and helping newcomers through English language practice? Do you have an interest in crafts that could be shared with enthusiastic seniors who are new to Canada? You don't need to be an expert in crafts to make a positive difference in this fun role. Over a cup of tea, and a fun DIY project, newcomer seniors will learn English, become familiar with Canadian culture, and build friendships, thereby empowering successful integration and settlement into the community. By leading a discussion in English, the volunteer will support newcomer seniors in this process. At the Arts and Crafts table, you can take the initiative and use your creativity to engage the participants in fun small crafts, arts, and games - the options of activities could be endless! Desired skills and qualifications include: Good listening skills and effective communication skills Resourcefulness and creativity Ability to respond to various learning needs Patience and flexibility Being supportive of diversity Ability to work in a team Fluency in English Experience with seniors is an asset This group activity takes place every Thursday from 1-3pm at East Office (located at 8212 – 118 Avenue, Edmonton AB, T5B 0S3). The time requirement for this role is 2-3 hours per week for a minimum of 6 months.
