Project Manager - Food Skills Program

3-4 hours / weekly

Mission: We are committed to advancing the reputation and availability of professional project management in the expanding nonprofit sector.

Vision: We are an organization of experienced project managers that help nonprofit organizations transform opportunities into successful projects

SInce 2010, we have worked with 250+ non-profit organizations, assisting them with assessing potential projects and then supporting them with finding the right Project Manager from the Canadian volunteering project management community.

Below, is our newest opportunity as were are working with Refood Foundation to find a volunteer project manager.

Organization Mission

Based on the 2016 Report by BC Center for Disease Control (BCCDC) about one in nine BC households (11.8%) could be considered food insecure.

Refood Food Rescue Foundation is a non-profit social enterprise that responds to this issue by reducing food waste, re-purposing ugly foods, and re-educating the public about food. By partnering with grocers and local non-profit organizations we serve at-risk populations with surplus food that otherwise would have gone to waste. Despite all the challenges, we proudly delivered 216,000 meals to those in need during the second half of 2020.

Project Summary

High school students in Burnaby have limited opportunities to learn essential cooking skills. This may lead to a lifetime of diminished nutrition, malnourishment, limited self-reliance, and increased food waste. To address this, Refood is preparing to launch a Food skills program to: teach students to make a meal planning, nutritious meals, educate students about food waste, and help students meet their volunteer hours requirement by preparing meals for Refood’s community fridge.

The project will run throughout the 2022 -2023 academic year. Refood have developed the curriculum, have located and engaged a food truck, and will provide the food required for the lessons.
