Media Corespondent

Ongoing
Reimagine Agriculture is looking for a volunteer Media Correspondent. This person would support the organization in all areas of media development including covering and passing on relevant news articles, reaching out to newspapers for comment, writing and supporting the development of Op-eds and finding unique ways to have our voice heard.

About Reimagine Agriculture:
We founded Reimagine Agriculture because we saw the opportunity to address pressing agricultural issues like food waste and animal agriculture that are not currently being given enough attention in Canada. The farming sector is often overlooked in the critical and ongoing conversations surrounding waste and climate change. As agricultural waste and demand for meat, dairy, eggs and other products of animal agriculture continue to grow worldwide, their contributions to the already dire effects of climate change will worsen. Applying our expertise to these critically overlooked issues, Reimagine Agriculture is committed to reducing the negative impacts of these systems, building the changes in Canada that are needed throughout the world.

We accomplish these goals through the primary use of education through knowledge mobilization, building alliances, and policy change. This can be in the form of presentations to various age groups and organizations, national campaigns with democratic engagement, and working with related stakeholders. Our focus is on being effective, using evidence-based reasoning and meeting people where they are. Our team is a small group of dedicated individuals and friends who are working together to make strategic and operational decisions for Reimagine Agriculture.

What we are looking for in you:
REAG has developed expertise on agricultural issues in a way we do not see represented in the media and feel that our voice is essential for the reliable distribution of information. This includes addressing the systemic nature of food waste and understanding that traditional animal agriculture must decrease significantly worldwide.

We would like assistance augmenting our voice in a few ways. The position would involve communicating relevant news articles so that we can keep our content relevant, engage in the conversation on Twitter and provide our voice. We will also ask you to reach out to media outlets directly to offer commentary on articles that come out. Op-eds and letters to the editor would also be an important part of the role including editing, suggesting relevant topics and overall being a strong collaborator.

It is important to us to have a volunteer who has a strong understanding of these agricultural issues and a passion to address them. Applicants should be open-minded and thoughtful. It is absolutely not necessary to be vegetarian or vegan for the position (and may even be an asset as that is the primary population we work with).

To Apply:
Interested individuals can send an email to volunteers@reimagineagriculture.org with a few paragraphs explaining why they’re passionate about these agricultural issues, what they think they can bring to the position and an attached resume.

Please answer the following questions in your email:
1. Why are you interested in volunteering for Reimagine Agriculture? What makes you interested in the organization?
2. What would be your focus in terms of engaging with the media? How could we be most productive and effective?

The deadline is MAY 21st, 2022
