About Operations Smile:
We are a volunteer-delivered global medical charity that provides free surgery to repair cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial differences for children and young adults.  Active in over 60 low- and middle -income countries around the world, we exist to make sure everyone receives the safe corrective surgery and complete care they need (through comprehensive care programs like speech therapy, dental/orthodontics, nutrition, social work and psychology) wherever they live in the world. 

Through our medical and education programs, guided by our Medical Global Standards, we are at the forefront of resourcing and enabling local communities to provide surgery and care, because we believe access to safe surgery is a basic right.   

Working with the Operation Smile Canada team, your primary role as a volunteer will be to raise awareness and funds by engaging student bodies, local businesses, communities, families, and friends.  You will build relationships with fellow peers, individuals and local businesses  which includes identifying, cultivating, and soliciting donations and other support to fund life changing cleft surgeries and complete care for children in low- and middle- income countries.

Responsibilities:
•	Act as a representative for Operation Smile Canada in your school and  local community. 
•	Recruit and support  student SMILE Ambassadors within your school.
•	Keep track of student volunteer hours. 
•	With the support of the Operation Smile Canada team, establish a club focused on raising funds and awareness for children born with cleft conditions. 
•	Establish new relationships and solicit support from other schools, local and regional businesses, communities, families, and friends.  
•	Promote involvement in Operation Smile Canada’s Longest Day of SMILES® movement.
•	Identify and develop new fundraising opportunities.
•	Assist with the recognition and stewardship of supporters and donors.
•	Attend third-party events in support of Operation Smile Canada which could include recognition and sponsor events. Present at student events where needed.

Requirements:
•	All volunteers are required to act in a professional manner when representing Operation Smile Canada and adhere to the organization’s volunteer code of conduct.
•	All volunteers are required to notify the office in advance if they are unable to attend a scheduled appointment or event.
•	Have a thorough understanding of our mission and values.
•	Maintain the privacy and confidentiality of donors, staff, and other volunteers.
•	Regularly post on your personal or club social media accounts to promote local community events in support of Operation Smile.
•	Participate in the Longest Day of SMILES® movement by registering for a personal page and actively fundraise.
•	Participate in Operation Smile Canada’s S.M.I.L.E. Program 
•	Host at least one fundraising event within your school or local community, virtually or in-person, as part of the S.M.I.L.E. Program
•	SMILE!

Orientation and Training:
We want to make sure you’re set up for success as a student SMILE Ambassador. You will be trained by our passionate and knowledgeable staff members on Operation Smile Canada’s important work including our history, mission, vision and facts about cleft clip and palate. We will also review some of our key policies and processes that pertain to this roll. Additional training as required.

Qualifications and Skills:
•	Established contacts in your local community (i.e. businesses, service clubs, associations, etc.)would be an asset.
•	Outgoing, organized, and energetic individuals would be ideal for this position.
•	Previous leadership experience or experience in a volunteer leadership role.
•	Proven communication and networking skills.
•	Previous fundraising experience would be an asset.
