Do you love the community of Squamish? Be a part of an initiative that measures community vitality and supports locally relevant solutions to improve the quality of life in Squamish. Vital Signs aims to inspire civic engagement, to provide focus for public debate, and to help a range of actors take action and direct resources where they will have the greatest impact. This is a great opportunity for people who: • Are looking for a way to be a thought leader in the community • Like to work with data and numbers • Like to gather and tell stories • Are very organized Other specific skills that would be advantageous to the team: • Facilitation skills and event planning skills • Familiar using the back end of online web applications • Graphic Design • Writing • Project management Time Commitment This is a minimum one year commitment. The number of hours per month will vary depending on the plan the team puts together. Hours will be mostly flexible and much of the work can be done from home. It will involve a comfort level with online meeting platforms due to COVID-19. Training and resources are available Potential tasks and roles for team members: • Participate in developing the strategy Squamish’s Vital Signs for 2021-2022 • Identify existing local data sources • Assist with interpretation of data • Host online focus group sessions, interviews or other means of community consultation in order to o Gather further community input into indicator selection o Grading of issue areas • Make recommendations on indicator selection • Make community connections and act as ambassadors for the Vital Signs report • Help source other information and resources required for production of the report (such as photos and sponsors) • Build and manage the online Vital Signs platform for Squamish • Design reports and produce infographics • Participate in training webinar
This is a national program spearheaded by Community Foundations of Canada. There lots of support and resources are available.
Practice professional skills in any of data analysis/reviewing and understanding data sets, graphic design, use of the back end of web applications, project management, etc. Use your community connections for good and to talk about things that matter to Squamish. Learn so much more about your community. Meet new people. If you are idetailed oriented and but also love to put the pieces together into the big holistic picture, you will love being part of Vital Signs.
