Community Big Brothers Big Sisters Program

#200, 501 Festival Ave, Sherwood Park, AB, T8A 4X3 [map]
2-4 hours / weekly
one year
The Community Big Brothers Big Sisters program is one mentor (Big) and one mentee (little) spending time together building a friendship based on trust, support, common interests, and fun! Bigs and Littles participate in a variety of activities – everything from riding bikes, skating, reading, working on homework, cooking, playing video games to just talking and sharing with each other. The focus is on friendship and new experiences. Volunteer Bigs (Mentors) are asked to be able to give a minimum of one hour a week or every other week for the duration of a year.
We support all volunteer mentors through the entire process - from application to training, to matching you to the right program and guiding your relationship. If you are interested in more information regarding this volunteer opportunity, please contact Tracy Lockhart at tracy.lockhart@bigbrothersbigsisters.ca or 780-420-6352.
"You are more inspirational than you think"
Certification or Education Required
No specific education required. The agency provides all training needed.
Why should you volunteer for this opportunity?
Mentoring (a relationship between an older caring adult and a younger youth) has been shown to be an important component of wraparound community services to support a child’s success in school. Through participation in educational, recreation and social activities with a volunteer mentor, a mentoring relationship provides a child with support, friendship, guidance, and a constructive role model.
