Mentors for Youth Wanted in Central Alberta!

4-6 hours / monthly

Big Brothers Big Sisters is actively recruiting mentors. If you are not from Central Alberta please visit https://bigbrothersbigsisters.ca/find-agency-near/ to mentor youth in your area

Spending as little as one hour a week can impact a child's life in so many ways! The Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring program provides young people with a role model to talk to and share the experiences of growing up with. Through regular outings, a relationship is developed between the mentor and the mentee, which is built on trust and common interests, and is supported by our experienced case-workers. The result is a life-changing experience for both the mentor and the mentee.

Our Community based mentoring program requires four meetings hours per month of a couple hours each and a minimum of a one year commitment. Mentors and youth can decide together what they are going to do each time they meet. Some ideas:
reading a book together
flying a kite
playing basketball and discussing the latest sports scene
working on an arts and crafts project
working on the computer
writing a resume
going for bike rides
learning a musical instrument
baking cookies
discussing career options or plans for after high school

We make or matches based on mutual interests, so you don't have to change your life, just include a child or youth in your regular activities!
Additional Details & Skills Required
Being a mentor helps your mentee in so many ways. Mentors help youth boost their confidence and help them build their own self esteem. As a match you will enhance life & social skills, learn new things, make great memories and have fun doing it!
Why should you volunteer for this opportunity?
Mentoring, at its core, guarantees young people that there is someone who cares about them, assures them they are not alone in dealing with day-to-day challenges, and makes them feel like they matter. Mentoring benefits the mentors as well. Mentors report that they:
improve their morale
learn more about themselves
improve their own values
get a fresh perspective on their lives
feel more satisfied

Many mentors feel they get more out of mentoring than they ever thought they could!
