Help is needed: Mask Sewing
People in your neighbourhood need your help.
This is a completely virtual volunteer opportunity! Each year The United Way of Lethbridge & South Western Alberta relies on a group of community volunteers to help us decide where to direct our funding. This year we are looking for at least 15 volunteers to join our Allocations Committee. Volunteers can expect to invest about 20-30 hours of time. Allocations Committee Members are expected to: 1) Attend Virtual Orientation Meeting (Will be scheduled for the end of March) 2) Read and assess approximately 10 funding applications from charitable organizations (independent reviews take place in the first two-three weeks of April) 3) Participate in 2-3 virtual committee meetings to discuss reviews and allocate funds (To be scheduled in April/May) Position Requirements: A good understanding of the English language is needed. Some charity background or knowledge of existing community programs will be helpful. An understanding of financial statements would be an asset. Access to a computer with an internet connection will be needed. A computer webcam and microphone will be an asset, however, digital meetings can also be attended by phone. Our funding supports agencies and programs that help combat various #UNIGNORABLE social issues that affect our community, such as social isolation, domestic violence, mental illness, and education inequality. As you can imagine, these issues are likely to become more prevalent given the impact of COVID-19. This volunteer role is an excellent opportunity to learn more about programs offered by organizations in Lethbridge and south western Alberta, and provides a great deal of insight into the needs of local communities. We value the insight that lived experience can provide, and welcome anyone interested in volunteering in this role to apply.
