Poverty Advocate

2-6 hours / weekly

Poverty advocates are responsible for connecting with community members, interviewing them to understand their circumstances better and work to directly connect these individuals to localized agencies able to support them in their needs. Poverty advocates would mainly work with vulnerable populations and people who may not have access to regular income/ food etc and need longer-term support. Advocates work in groups of two and are supported by a case manager. 

 Poverty Advocates will:
- Build relationships and be the main contact with community members
-Schedule and conduct an interview with community members and take detailed notes to help inform which agencies and supports would be the best connection for them
- research and call agencies to find appropriate supports
- directly connect community members with the agencies available to support
-Follow up with and report to the Case Manager throughout the case process
Additional Details & Skills Required
Volunteers receive training on poverty advocacy and access to training materials. Volunteers are connected to a case manager who provides additional direction and support.
