Society Board Member Position - President

This position is intended to be staffed locally, although bi-monthly meetings and work are currently held virtually, when restrictions are lifted they will be held in person again. 

After many years of outreach, advocacy and engagement, Edmonton officially become the 17th municipality and the 2nd  largest municipality in Canada to become a Fairtrade Town on September 26, 2013. A permanent committee was struck to promote continued growth in the awareness, availability and consumption of Fair Trade products in Edmonton.

On June 15, 2016, the committee became a Registered Society with the official name of Fair Trade Edmonton Council.

VISION

Fair Trade Edmonton Council aims to be a reliable resource for individuals, businesses and associations interested in Fairtrade or Fair Trade and a respected promoter of Fair Trade in Edmonton and Alberta.

MISSION

Educate: Fair Trade Edmonton Council will be a resource for associations, businesses, and individuals
Promote: Fair Trade Edmonton will be outward-looking, constantly visible to the general public, bring Fair Trade to a variety of different audiences and encourage ethical procurement practices and sourcing;
Advocate: Fair Trade Edmonton Council will focus on reaching audiences across Alberta, including but not limited to: Schools, businesses, associations, and individuals in order to encourage the use of Fair Trade products, as well as other ethical practices regarding production, sales, and sourcing of products. We will do this by participating in and organizing events, as well as attending and participating in conferences and festivals.
Collaborate: Fair Trade Edmonton Council will seek out opportunities to collaborate with other community organizations interested in ethical consumerism, social justice, human rights and/or international development. 

PRESIDENT POSITION

Term: 2 years

Transition period: June 2021 - July 2021  Term start: August 2021

Time Commitment: 10 - 15 hours per month

Role:

- Provide leadership and direction to volunteers and programs designed to facilitate engagement opportunities.

- Create Fair Trade Edmonton messaging, assist and coordinate any projects

- Serve as an ambassador on behalf of the society and connect with other like-minded organizations to deliver awareness events and celebrations.

- Collaborate with board volunteers to set the annual direction and program goals for the chapter.

- Delegate responsibilities for the annual plan to appropriate volunteer positions and committees.

- Prepare agenda and distributes notices of meetings to board members as required and presides at chapter meetings.

- Pursue new volunteers to ensure the sustainability of the organization long term.

- Chair bi-monthly general's member meeting 

Nice to have:

- Experience in managing a WordPress site
