Volunteer Driver

9916 45 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB, T6E 5J1 [map]
This is a flexible position.
Drive Happiness is looking for generous, compassionate individuals to volunteer their time driving seniors in the areas we serve.

– You choose when, where, and how often you drive
– We provide a gas reimbursement
– Meet friendly and appreciative seniors
– Make a difference in your community

How to Apply

Visit drivehappiness.ca to download an application form. Drive Happiness insists that all new volunteer drivers apply for a Vulnerable Sector Police Check. We cover the cost, and the clearance can take two weeks to complete.

From here, we pay to obtain a copy of the volunteer’s driving abstract, which must be renewed every three years. We prefer volunteers have no infractions on their license, but exceptions can be made in the case of older accidents and tickets from another location.

We require a valid driver's license, vehicle registration, and insurance- items that volunteers should already have to legally drive. We also require the volunteer to have a reasonably clean and safe vehicle, as well as two references and an emergency contact.

Finally, a volunteer will need to sign our Code of Ethics, Oath of Confidentiality, and Statement of Understanding before they can start driving happiness!

Gas Reimbursements

Drive Happiness charges members $10.00 for a 90-minute ride, which can be one-way or round-trip. Volunteers receive a gas reimbursement for each trip that they take by submitting their driving log.

Scheduling Rides

All rides are booked through the Drive Happiness office, and seniors must let us know when and where they are being picked up and dropped off. We use a software called Ride Scheduler® to track appointments, allowing volunteers to access the database of requested rides online and choose which trips suit their schedule.
