COVID-19 Support

Meal Delivery Driver (Community Food Truck)

8930 82 Avenue NW, Edmonton, AB, T6C 0Z3 [map]
1-5 hours / weekly
According to your availability.
Canadian Volunteers United in Action (CANAVUA) runs a food truck on the streets of Edmonton to serve hot, healthy meals to people in need.

We meet on Wednesday mornings at 11:45. Because our food truck is mobile, we meet at different locations in the city. The exact location varies week to week and will be shared with volunteers in advance.

To allow our clients to socially distance during the COVID-19 pandemic, we are looking for volunteer drivers to deliver hot meals directly to families' homes. Volunteers will be split up into teams to make delivery runs in different but concentrated areas of the city (the north side, south, east end, downtown, etc.).

You can find out more about this new initiative to fight hunger in Edmonton on our blog:

CTV Edmonton has also reported on our initiative on the evening news:

We thank all applicants in advance for their interest in helping with this program.
Additional Details & Skills Required
All training will be provided on-site.
Certification or Education Required
A Class 5 driver's licence (G.D.L or otherwise) or higher is an asset. Volunteers who don't drive can accompany a driver and help to load meals at the foot truck and unload them at families' homes.
Why should you volunteer for this opportunity?
The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the crisis of food insecurity in Edmonton and throughout Canada. Statistics Canada reports that 1 in 7 Canadians reports facing food insecurity (defined as the inability to provide adequate nutrition for one's household). By providing hot, healthy meals to people in need, you will, as a volunteer, help people to provide the food their families need and make a big difference in the community.
