Funding Campaign Project Leader

For discussion
The Aquatic Biosphere Society of Canada is behind the development of the Aquatic Biosphere Project, a planned legacy attraction that presents the “Story of Water” to visitors, via a public conservation aquarium, educational centre and research facility. As an eco-tourism hub, visitors will explore the life that lives in, on and around water, understanding the connections of water, biodiversity, and humanity both here and around the world. The project is in the development and funding stage.

The Society is seeking an individual to join our team as a volunteer with a background in funds development. The project needs a leader in this role to help develop and oversee a first phase funding campaign. Working closely with the Board of Directors, your focus will be on leading the charge to design and implement this campaign. You will not be alone in this, as a team of volunteers and Board members will be supporting you.

The Society is currently an operational board and as a group we are respectful of diverse contributions and skills, collaborative in discussion, and passionate about the mission and what is being created. Everyone has an active voice at the table, and everyone is encouraged to contribute.

A commitment to the following responsibilities will build the best opportunities for success within this role:
1.	Commitment to the mission, values, and work of the Society;
2.	Provide strategic leadership to your committee;
3.	Connect the Society’s leadership and the organization to prospective sponsors, donors and partners;
4.	Attend occasional board meetings as needed;
5. Be a champion of the project and its goals .

Meetings are generally held online, team oriented project management software is used to track projects and progress. The Society does not have physical offices at this time, we are a fully virtually/remote based operation.

We value candidates who are passionate about the project and who bring a new perspective and creative ideas. There are many aspect and levels of engagement to be excited about, to share and build on. If you are interested to help continue the growth and success of this project, we would like to meet you. Be part of the 'Story of Water' with us.

(Note: We have recently had a name change (Nov 2022) and you may see the Society still referenced as 'Aquarium Society of Alberta' in some places. We are working through the transition and appreciate your understanding while this progresses.)
Additional Details & Skills Required
You will be onboarded and basic training in the project management software and communications tools used.
Why should you volunteer for this opportunity?
You will bring to the Society your skill set in funds development and the Society will provide you with a legacy project to expand your skills and be a contributor to something highly visible, highly impactful and very exciting. If this sounds like something you'd like to be involved in, we want to meet you.
