COVID-19 Volunteering

So you need volunteers and yet social distancing is the key message right now. You want to support community health while still staying connected to your current volunteers. You even want to connect to new individuals and families looking for activities at home.

Volunteers and volunteer organizations must follow all necessary precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 to protect themselves and those they help:

  • Maintain a two-metre separation between individuals wherever possible.
  • Restrict the number of people in a space at any one time.
  • Install a physical barrier, such as a cubicle, partition or window, to separate volunteers, staff and patrons.
  • Eliminate or restructure non-essential gatherings, such as meetings and training classes.
  • Limit the number of people in shared spaces or stagger break periods.
  • Place reference markers in workspaces that set out two-metre distances.

For Volunteers

Please be patient at this time as people adjust to working from home and figuring out ways to support our neighbours, response times might be a little slower than normal.

For Organizations

Answers to common organizational questions can be found on our partner's pages.

Create Volunteer Opportunities Related to COVID-19

Our front page has made it easier to respond to your urgent opportunities. We have added a "COVID-19" tag to our "Cause" categories to help you right now. Volunteers can search quickly using that tag to find the opportunities to respond. Some tips for posting:

  • If you have an immediate need then use the COVID-19 tag, for example you serve seniors or are a foodbank
  • Revisit your current opportunities and update with the COVID-19 tag if applicable, archive posts no longer relevant
  • If you are organizing a grassroots community effort you are welcome to use the VolunteerConnector for posting and organizing

Access Free Volunteer Engagement Tools
