Volunteer Coordinator

1-6 hours / weekly
Minimum 6 months, or ongoing
Canadian Voices Against Racism (CVAR) is building a database of police brutality and police killings in Canada as a means to advocate for deep structural change. Since a complete database does not currently exist, we believe our database has the potential to become a powerful tool to petition lawmakers to dismantle racist, discriminatory, and oppressive laws and practices that disproportionately target Black, Indigenous, and racialized communities.

As we continue to conduct our research into police brutality and police killings, we are looking for Volunteer Coordinators to help inspire and rally the volunteers. As we continue to grow in terms of volunteers, we want to ensure that we are keeping everyone as up to date as possible and remain widely accessible as an administrative team. As a Volunteer Coordinator you would be assisting us in this and making sure that our other volunteers have multiple outlets for questions or concerns.

The role of Volunteer Coordinator here at CVAR involves helping our fellow volunteers stay on the right track and support them as they work with us and conduct their research. As a Volunteer Coordinator you’ll have the chance to help with:
onboarding new volunteers
answering questions via our email, Slack channels, and our social media platforms
hosting and assisting our webinars
acting as a cheerleader and rallying the volunteers to do this important work

We recognize that burnout can take effect with the type of work that we do. We are committed to helping our team find balance. We will be hosting healing circles with our team and an outside partner, to ensure you have access to a safe space to discuss your experiences. We offer a letter of reference for committed volunteers.
