Research + Data Entry Volunteer

2-6 hours / weekly
Minimum 6 months, or ongoing
Canadian Voices Against Racism is building a database of police brutality and police killings in Canada as a means to advocate for deep structural change. Since a complete database does not currently exist, we believe our database has the potential to become a powerful tool to petition lawmakers to dismantle racist, discriminatory, and oppressive laws and practices that disproportionately target Black, Indigenous, and racialized communities.

Responsibilities:
Researching cases of police brutality and police killings across Canada
Entering case information into our databases

Volunteers will be guided through the data entry process by members of our administrative team through an online webinar and will be able to continuously ask questions via email and Slack. Data entry will involve Google Forms so no knowledge of Microsoft Excel is necessary.

This is an ideal opportunity for anyone looking to develop and/or hone their research skills while advocating for racial and social justice.

Why should you volunteer for this opportunity?
We're committed to a flexible and virtual volunteer workspace. We host bi-monthly volunteer webinars to help get you onboarded and give you a chance to meet the team.

We recognize that burnout can take effect with the type of work that we do. We are committed to helping our team find balance. We will be hosting healing circles with our team and an outside partner, to ensure you have access to a safe space to discuss your experiences. We offer a letter of reference for committed volunteers.
