Ups and Downs- Calgary Down Syndrome Association is a vibrant family support group that enriches the lives of individuals with Down syndrome and their families by providing a network of resources, sharing common experiences, learning together, and creating awareness in the broader community.

We envision lifelong partnerships that foster friendships, family connections, healthy lifestyles, inclusive community and a future without limitations. 

We are now accepting applications for new members to our Board of Directors. We are looking for community-minded people with a sincere and passionate interest in providing programming for persons with Down syndrome and can bring fresh ideas and energy to our organization.

Board Member commitment includes in-person/virtual attendance at monthly board meetings and active contributions to committee work as required. Board terms are 2 years and a Board Member can serve 3 terms for a total of 6 years. We are looking for engaged, dedicated, strategic, business-minded professionals that wish to share their skills for the development and sustainability of Ups and Downs.

We are looking for individuals with the following experience and skill sets:
•	Strategically minded in decision making
•	Entrepreneurship skills
•	Corporate business skills
•	Understanding of budgeting and financial projections
•	Fund development skills
•	Experience within the disability community and/or passion for the disability community
•	Public speaking skills
•	Willingness to attend events and programs as a representative of Organization

Board at Large Role Description
Term
•	The Board at Large shall be elected by the membership at the AGM 
•	The Board at Large serves on the Board for a maximum of 3 terms consisting of 2 years each. (Bylaw – Article V a, 10 amended)
Responsibilities 
•	Attendance at monthly Board meetings and the Annual General Meeting
•	Commitment to the vision/mission and strategic direction of the organization
•	Knowledge of board governance and demonstration of leadership skills
•	Support of and participation in special events organized by Ups and Downs
•	Willingness to serve on committees when required
•	Other duties as volunteered 

Approximate time commitment per month: 3hrs- 5hrs
