FUNCTION The Trishaw bike pilot volunteer will work as an integral part of the Silvera team reporting to the Active Aging Volunteer Coordinator and Active Aging Assistant through virtual communication. Our Active Aging programs are focused on the social, spiritual, intellectual, emotional vocational/environmental and physical well-being of residents. The Trishaw bike program will help to increase our residents' opportunities to enjoy the outdoors in a safe environment. Our Trishaw bike program is supported through Cycling Without Age, which has chapters in 42 countries around the world- a chance to experience life beyond the confines of their residence. They have the right to have wind in their hair! https://vimeo.com/326058270 RESPONSIBILITIES Promote program with individuals and groups to highlight benefits and encourage participation Support independence and choice for residents by highlighting adaptations to programs Ensure documentation has been completed Positive interaction with residents to reduce social isolation Follow all guidelines for the safe use of the Trishaw bike Participate in Silvera's Health and Safety program by effectively identifying potential hazards and risks, and ensure the sanitization preceding and following ride. WORKING CONDITIONS Ability to work in varying work environments, both independently and as part of a team Be prepared for changing weather conditions Ability to work outdoors for the entire shift Use of safety glasses and face mask during all interactions with Silvera Staff and Residents. SUPERVISION Active Aging Department HOURS OF WORK Regularly scheduled shifts occur on business days as well as early evening. RISK MANAGEMENT Moderate Risk-This is a moderate risk because volunteers will be working with residents on a one to one basis. Injury may occur as bending, twisting, and pushing are a requirement for this position.
QUALIFICATIONS Demonstrates passion for and experience working with seniors; Demonstrates creativeness, enthusiasm and a positive, team-oriented attitude is essential; Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, additional languages are an asset; Ability to operate the Trishaw for the duration of an hour ride- bending, twisting, and pushing may be required.
