Share your Human Resource and/or Governance expertise by joining a committee for local visual arts organization

The New Gallery is recruiting one long-term volunteer for the organization’s Human Resource Committee. This committee monitors and evaluate all policies and matters related to the Gallery's human resources, personnel, and governance activities. The committee also ensures that the Gallery operates at all times in accordance with applicable provincial employment standards and provides governance leadership to the Board of Directors.

The Committee meets as needed, and at minimum three times per year to review and evaluate any human resource or governance policies currently in place and to consider any matters then relevant to the Committee's responsibilities. All committee members are asked to commit to a 1-year term at minimum.

The Committee is responsible for the following key duties, and making recommendations to the Board in respect of the following matters: 

•	Support the Director in staffing and Human Resource activities, including: entering into or amending contracts of employment for permanent employees; terminating permanent employees; staff compensation, including benefits; review and approve senior staff vacation and holiday time; review all staff's professional development expenses; and approve all staff's artistic leaves of absence. 
•	Monitor compliance with charitable governance regulations and provide guidance to the Board
•	Monitor and assess the relationship between the Board and Director, making recommendations to the board to ensure that the board continues to function according to best practices
•	Make recommendations to the board on governance and HR policies, practices and procedures
Certification or Education Required
Associate, Bachelor's, or Master degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, specializing in Human Resources, Nonprofit Governance, or equivalent
