Momo Movement is looking to build a strong, skilled board of directors.

Momo Movement designs inclusive, integrated, accessible and equitable dance, movement, theatre and performance opportunities for people with and without disabilities. In our classrooms and studios, Momo works with individual participants and performers to find their own movements and tell their own stories.

Momo offers weekly low-cost, inclusive creative movement classes for folks with all kinds of disabilities. We conduct our own public classes through the DJD Dance Centre, the Wildflower Arts Centre, and other facilities, and offer multi-week workshops through disability serving agencies like, Ups and Downs, AAFS, Options Day Program and the CNIB.

Momo Movement's ensemble of mixed ability artists meets throughout the year to explore themes that are meaningful to them and create performance pieces of their own design. Working with choreographers from within the ensemble and collaborating with guest artists, Momo's ensemble is challenging who gets to make art, who gets to perform it and what it looks like.

As a part of Momo Movement Board of Directors, you will have the opportunity to engage with the staff of Momo and offer valuable input and strategic direction that will support the many essential services Momo provides to its participants and the community at large.

The role of the Board of Directors is to further Momo’s vision and mission by establishing organizational direction and monitoring progress. As a member of the Momo Board of Directors, you will be responsible for:

BOARD RESPONSIBILITIES
• Providing strategic and generative leadership
• Ensuring the organization’s financial viability and sustainability
• Developing policy framework that guides operations
• Employing and evaluating the performance of the Boar Chair and contract service providers
• Participating in the development of resources
• Being knowledgeable about the organization’s values, mission, programs and performance
• Establishing the annual committee structure required to execute the Board work plan
• Being an ambassador for the organization and promoting its work in the community

To carry out these responsibilities, the Board usually meets 9 months of the year. In addition to attendance at Board meetings, you will be required to participate on a committee that also meets monthly or every other month.

Preparation for Board and committee meetings is essential and should be factored into the overall time commitment expected from Board members.

Momo is seeking individuals with the following qualifications to join the Board:

QUALIFICATIONS
• Passion for volunteerism
• Past voluntary committee or board experience (organizational or community)
• Competence in any of several key areas including: arts administration and management, leadership, resource development, finance, human resources, legal, communications, governance, diversity, community/volunteerism, and strategic planning
• Interest in learning about governance, volunteerism, community development and capacity building
• Able to work effectively within a team
Additional Details & Skills Required
Previous experience on a volunteer board is an asset, but not required. A background in one of the professional fields listed above would be a great help in keeping Momo's momentum strong and supporting Momo's tiny staff team.
Why should you volunteer for this opportunity?
Momo is on the move. We have some big plans for the next 5-years, including: summer camp programming; teach-the-teacher workshops, making more classrooms and studios inclusive and accessible; becoming the first resident company at the National accessArts Centre; and so much more. Joining the board is an excellent opportunity to actively grow creative opportunities for artists with disabilities in Calgary. Come be part of the Momo momentum.
