Help is needed: Mask Sewing
People in your neighbourhood need your help.
Kerby Centre is a not-for-profit organization located in the heart of Calgary, committed to enhancing the ability of older adults to live healthy productive lives within the community. Since 1973, Kerby Centre has evolved into one of Canada’s flagship agencies: setting the standard for older adult services, information, and programming. We provide innovative health, wellness, and social service programs for more than 25,000 older adults each year. Covid-19 has changed the way we provide a lot of services to seniors in Calgary. One of those changes is providing more deliveries of essentials right to the doors of seniors that need it. This includes prepared meals, groceries, masks, and the opportunity for a friendly face and chat/check-in from a safe distance. At this time we are seeking temporary volunteers for a 7 week meal delivery program: • This program will run Monday – Fridays starting Monday, August 24th – Friday, October 9th (excluding Labour Day – Monday, Sept 7th) • We are looking for volunteers to commit to at least 1 consistent day/week (if you would like more than one day of week we would happily accept that!) • Days available to sign up for are: o Mondays o Tuesdays o Wednesdays o Fridays • Each volunteer would be making about 7 stops/shift (likely a 1.5 – 2 hour time commitment). Each week you would be delivering to roughly the same clients to limit the amount of navigating each week • All stops will grouped together as best as possible geographically • Meals will be picked up from ATCO Park located at 5302 Forand Street SW between 10:00am and 1pm on your designated day at a specified 30 min interval i.e. 10:30am, 11am, 11:30am etc. • All deliveries will be contactless and you will be required to wear a mask and gloves • While the meals are an integral part of this program, this is also an opportunity to for volunteers to check-in on our senior clients who may be a bit more isolated and are looking for a friendly face to chat with on a weekly basis. An important part of this role is to recognize any other needs these clients may have and report that information back to Kerby Centre.
