Volunteer Title: Career Connection About Us: In 1997, Inn from the Cold was started by a small group of passionate Calgarians who were determined to change the lives of individuals experiencing homelessness. Since then, the Inn has become Calgary’s largest family emergency homeless shelter. We also provide affordable and supportive housing, and offer prevention and diversion support. Purpose: This opportunity aims to inspire and guide families in our care to a career path that will encourage and fulfill their goals. This is a great platform for adults to get insights into a career that may interest them, and also a way to inspire/educate students on future career paths. By garnering information and insight into jobs and careers, our volunteers will help our families find meaningful positions within the working community. Duties and Responsibilities: This opportunity is a way for our kids to explore careers/jobs that they may have not been exposed to. Our volunteers are asked to describe what their position looks like on a regular basis to inspire and encourage our kids career paths. Volunteers are responsible for: - Explaining career insights through exciting/engaging home videos Ideas: - Typical work day/week - Topics you may be responsible for - What type of industry is it in - Education requirements - Physical requirements - What to expect - Providing tips/tricks on how to obtain the position - Building supportive relationships and engage with families through videos - Ensuring the confidentiality of any document, client information, or communication regarding the Inn and its guests is maintained - Communicating regularly with Volunteer Resources when necessary Skills and Qualifications: Volunteers have/are: - Punctual and reliable - Experience with video making/presenting - Professional experience in their field of work - Outgoing, engaging, and comfortable taking initiative - Effective communication and organizational skills - Comfort and ease in a leadership position - Experience working with a marginalized population is an asset Time: Remote volunteer videos are typically between 10 – 30 minutes long however, this is subject to the topic being presented. No minimum maximum number of videos required. Orientation and Training: No training required. Orientation and support provided by the Volunteer Resources team. Supervision: Career Connection volunteers report to the Volunteer Resources Department
