Volunteer Engagement Chair

Time Commitment: 8-10 hours/month

Responsibilities

1.	Understand the volunteer needs of our Foundation’s Committees annually and per project. 
2.	Work with Committee Chairs to develop and maintain volunteer position descriptions. 
3.	Post volunteer positions on appropriate sites. 
4.	Recruit volunteers - includes interviewing, screening and distributing Volunteer Orientation packages.   
5.	Maintain volunteer records. 
6.	Build and maintain strong working relationships with volunteers by communicating with volunteers regularly to ensure they are satisfied and well-placed. And by identifying needs for the support and development of volunteers. 
7.	Arrange volunteer recognition through an event or gift within budget constraints. 
8.	Create and distribute a regular newsletter. 
9.	Report progress to the F5F Board of Directors and utilize/understand the Critical Path.  

Role Description

The Volunteer Engagement Chair leads the Volunteer Engagement Committee {“the Committee”} in the development and execution of the Committee’s vision, strategy and work plans according to the mandate set out in the Committee’s Terms of Reference. 
•	The Committee Chair is responsible for bringing the Committee’s vision, strategy and work plans to the Board for approval; no work can begin without Board approval. 
•	The Committee Chair is expected to develop and manage the Committee, including recruiting and engaging volunteers.  
•	The Committee Chair must ensure that the various F5F Functional Services Committees are engaged in the Committee’s work - ideally by including Functional Services Committee volunteers in Committee meetings on a regular or ad-hoc basis.

• 	Previous Board experience
•      Excellent communication and people skills: including listening and one-on-one conversation skills. 
•	Experience in managing volunteers including understanding of volunteer recruitment and retention strategies. 
•	Experience in recruitment and selection of volunteers.   
•	Strategic Planning and Visioning.
•	Project Management.
•	People leadership.
•	Good networking abilities.
•	Expertise with event planning and strategic programming.
