CAUSE Canada is a medium-size, Christian-motivated international development and relief organization. For over 35 years, it has worked to empower communities and individuals in West Africa and Central America.

CAUSE is seeking applications for the Board of Directors. As a member of the Board, a Director acts in a position of trust on behalf of the CAUSE Canada Corporation and is responsible for the effective governance of the organization. In this capacity, the Board supports the work of CAUSE Canada and provides mission-based leadership and strategic governance. While the day-to-day operations are led by CAUSE Canada’s Executive Director, the Board-Executive Director relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected.

Board members are accountable for:
•	Subscribing to CAUSE Canada’s Statement of Faith and Code of Conduct.
•	Attending scheduled Board meetings, meetings of assigned committees and the AGM.
•	Supporting local networking in support of CAUSE Canada, including attending at least one special event each year.
•	Approving, where appropriate, policy and other recommendations received from the Board, its standing committees and senior staff.
•	Participating in the development of CAUSE Canada’s strategic plan and review of outcomes and metrics for evaluating its impact and regularly measuring performance.
•	Approving CAUSE Canada’s annual budget, audit reports and material decisions; being informed of, and meeting all legal and fiduciary responsibilities.
•	Partnering with the Executive Director to ensure that board resolutions are carried out.
•	Approving the hiring/release of the Executive Director, including the Executive Director’s employment contract, based on the recommendation of the Human Resources Committee.
•	Providing performance support to the Executive Director, based on processes outlined by the Human Resources Committee.
•	Assisting in developing and maintaining positive relations among the Board, committees, staff members, and community to enhance CAUSE Canada’s mission.

Directors are elected by the members of the Corporation at the Annual General Meeting. Directors serve for a two-year term, and may serve three consecutive terms, after which they must take at least one year off. Directors may be released during or at the end of the elected term, by resigning, or according to CAUSE Canada’s policies.

At present, CAUSE Canada is welcoming all applications however is particularly interested in adding finance, legal and/or fund development skills and expertise to the Board.
