In the Lead Coach

4 month terms/twice a year
In the Lead is an innovative leadership development and coaching/mentoring program that uses a strength based approach to build on innate leadership ability and character development in young people. 

Each Young Leader is paired with a Volunteer Coach for the duration of the program.

A Volunteer Coach engages a Young Leader through developing a supportive, caring relationship. By connecting with a young person and focusing on what is strong in them as opposed to what is wrong, an In the Lead volunteer Coaches can establish a unique relationship foundation.

Volunteer Coaches foster the development of strengths through one on one meetings and ongoing communication throughout the duration of the program. 

Coaches also participate in the group volunteering activities which allows for additional opportunities to connect and relate to their Young Leader.

Volunteer Coaches/Mentors interested in participating in this program must be able to commit to: 

• Being available for the duration of the 4-month program
• Completing an application and screening process • Participating in three half-day training sessions 
• Attending “Meet Up” - an event where Young Leaders and Coaches/Mentors will be introduced to each other 
• Connecting regularly with an assigned Young Leader through texts, phone calls and/or in person 
• Attending group volunteering events as your schedule permits 
• Attending the wrap up celebration at the end of the 4 months 
• Being willing to learn, open-minded and ready to be challenged!
Additional Details & Skills Required
Volunteer Coaches/Mentors interested in participating in this program should have the following qualities:   	
• Self-aware, caring and flexible 
• A genuine desire to learn about and encourage a young person 
• A willingness to set aside expectations and allow space for a relationship to evolve naturally
