Treasurer

The professional, Charity-focused Treasurer is an officer of the Board and Chair of the Finance Committee composed of the Treasurer, Bookkeeper, Internal Auditor. Applicants with a professional portfolio in accounting and treasury with charitable organization board knowledge and experience, and philanthropic work are welcome to apply.

*This position is not a bookkeeping role and rather is an advisory role.*

Only applications with full-time residence in Canada are considered.

Responsibilities:
1- Overseeing the bookkeeping and implementation of such a plan;
2- Chairing the Finance Committee meetings held monthly or every two months to ensure deliverables are met on time;
3- Quarterly verbal reporting to the Board the budget, forecasting, financials and/or other treasury matters;
4- Presenting financials, budget, forecasting, strategy to the voting members at the AGM,  in compliance with the Canada Revenue Agency;
5- Developing the strategic accounting, financial and treasury plan, including short and long term deliverables/KPIs for charitable sustainability; 
6- Strategic advising on matters of the Income Tax Act, such as the GST and submission of charity tax receipts;
7- As needed, recruiting volunteers to join the Committee with board approval.

Having a proven record in their field, and extensive treasury knowledge and experience in charitable Canadian organizations is required. The Treasurer has access to strategic ad hoc advisors in charity matters.

The Treasurer may also have personal experience in help-seeking for a child with disabilities, having to navigate complex care systems. Preference will be given to applicants who fit the above requirements and have this personal experience. 

Time Commitment: 
30- to 60-minute Finance Committee meetings are held by telephone or video-conferencing on a monthly basis or every two months. Email communications in between meetings are also used as needed. Board meetings are held quarterly for up to 2 hours in person in Calgary (optional) or by video-conferencing. AGMs are held for 3-hours either in person in Canada or by video conferencing once a year in March. 

The minimum time commitment is a three-year mandate, for about 48 hours per year or 4 hours per month. Scheduling is flexible. A long term part time mandate is preferred (renewable). Letter of reference and attestation of hours worked available upon request.
Additional Details & Skills Required
Proven results in Accounting/ Treasury/ Finance, and sustainability and growth strategies.
Proficiency in implementing Accounting/ Treasury/ Finance strategic plans. 
Excellence in trouble shooting during development, design, testing and plan launch.
Efficiency in using Excel and/ or Simply Accounting, an asset.
Certification or Education Required
Chartered Public Accounting or equivalent degree
Extensive experience in Canadian charitable organization treasury and board experience
