Board of Directors, Treasurer & Officer

By telephone or by video-conferencing; occasionally in person in Calgary, Calgary, AB, T2H 0K2 [map]

3-year mandate preferred (renewable)
The professional, Charity-focused Treasurer is an officer of the Board and Chair of the Finance Committee composed of the Treasurer, Bookkeeper, Internal Auditor. Applicants with a professional portfolio in accounting, finance or treasury with charity board knowledge and experience (preferred), are welcome to apply.

Only applications with full-time residence in Canada are considered.
 
*This position is not a bookkeeping role and rather is an advisory and director role so several years of relevant experience are required.*

Responsibilities:
1- Chairing the Finance Committee meetings to oversee bookkeeping and accounting/finance strategy;
2-Presenting financials, budget, forecasting, strategy, and other accounting matters to Directors of the Board and voting members unless delegated to the bookkeeper;
3- Advising on matters of the Income Tax Act, such as the GST and charity tax receipts;
4- As needed, recruiting volunteers to join the Committee with board approval.

Having a proven record in their field is required, and extensive accounting or finance knowledge and experience in charity work in Canada is preferred. 

The Treasurer may also have personal experience in help-seeking for a child with disabilities, having to navigate complex care systems. Consideration will be given to applicants who fit the above requirements and have this personal experience. 

Time Commitment: 
1- Finance Committee meetings held monthly or every two months for 15 to 30 minutes by telephone or video-conferencing;
2- Board meetings held quarterly for 1.5 to 2 hours in person or by video-conferencing in March, June, September, December;
3- Annual General Meeting held  for 1 to 1.5 hours in person or by video-conferencing in March.
Email communications in between meetings may be helpful as needed. 

The minimum time commitment is a three-year mandate, for about 24 hours per year or 2 hours per month. Scheduling is flexible. A long term part time mandate is preferred (renewable). Letter of reference and attestation of hours worked available upon request.
Additional Details & Skills Required
Proven results in Accounting/ Treasury/ Finance, and sustainability and growth strategies.
Proficiency in implementing Accounting/ Treasury/ Finance strategic plans. 
Excellence in trouble shooting during development, design, testing and plan launch.
Efficiency in using Excel and/ or Simply Accounting, an asset.
Certification or Education Required
Chartered Public Accounting or equivalent degree
Extensive experience in Canadian charitable organization treasury and board experience
