AgeCare is preparing for the recent new health order allowing for increased access in continuing care centers by visitors and family members following four months of limited access due to the pandemic. This will be an important and exciting time for residents and families and we would like to ensure access and support is readily available to residents given the isolation they have endured.  AgeCare is seeking Volunteer Greeters for sites located in Calgary, Brooks, Medicine Hat, and Lethbridge.  

We welcome new individual applicants,  couples, or  friends who would like to volunteer together.  We anticipate morning, afternoon, and evening shifts of 2 to 3 hours will take place 7 days a week.  We anticipate this position to carry through the fall and into 2021  so we recommend a commitment period of  2 to 10 months.   You will feel confident volunteering in an environment that has been successful with  COVID 19 precautions.  Volunteers will be receive training  to work along side staff members in this enjoyable position. This position is an excellent introduction to seniors health care for community minded individuals or students entering health professions.   Volunteers will enjoy greeting and meeting AgeCare residents as they enter and exit the building as well as return to community activities and visiting family members once again.  Additional recreation opportunities are also available through this primary volunteer position. Activities such as socially distanced bingo and games as well as supporting families and residents with visiting via Facetime on organizational IPads will be common opportunities. Applicants with minimal other volunteer commitments are preferred to increase safety for all.

In keeping with standard public protocol,  visitors and family members have been requested to pre-screen themselves prior to arrival.  Volunteers will greet and  support seniors and their visitors as they reconnect.  Volunteers will also assist families as they navigate items and gifts to a resident's community while maintaining social distancing protocols. Visitors will be asked  to provide  a completed screening form along with their temperature before entering the building of which volunteers will record and collect forms. Staff will be responsible for addressing any concerns.
