In this volunteer-from-home opportunity, you will be reporting to the Certified Listener Program Manager, you will be supervising our Certified Listener Volunteers and providing them with emotional support as needed. Given that we are an emotional support service, communication may be sensitive and/or shocking in nature. In this role, you will: • Provide immediate and confidential support to our certified listener volunteers (chat, etc.) using agency procedures and policies. • Help our Certified Listener Volunteers by providing them with information, resources, and referrals when appropriate. • Understand what to do if you are concerned about a person’s safety (Client or Certified Listener Volunteer). • Work with clients, volunteers, and staff in a respectful and professional manner. • Be required to type 40 WPM. • Perform risk assessments during calls to determine if the calls are within or beyond our scope. What will you NOT be doing: • Certified Listeners Volunteer are not therapists nor hold themselves out to be. Volunteers are to only provide emotional support and should not try to provide clients with mental health support or services. • Telling people what to do or how they should live their lives. • Providing crisis intervention or addiction counselling. Commitment: To work a minimum of one 4-hour shift per week for a period of at least 3 months. There is flexibility in scheduling, and you will be able to choose weekly shifts that best suit you.
We at Certified Listeners Society provide training, protocols, policies and policies, proprietary software, support, and supervision to help shift supervisors and certified listener volunteers fulfill their roles. Successful candidates will have to complete our Certified Listeners training, supervisor training, and job shadowing. Training will take 20 hours to complete and can be done at your own pace.
• At a minimum, a Degree or diploma in social services, social work, psychology, and nursing. • Be at least 18 years of age • Two references (professional, volunteer-related or academic) • Police reference check, including vulnerable sector screening
