Communications Support Volunteer

Black Eco Bloom is a new sustainable development organization that focuses on supporting individuals who identify with the Black woman experience in their journeys in the environmental sector in Canada and abroad. We want to create a space that nurtures Black women, Black transgender women and Black non-binary individuals to be leaders in the environmental sector. Our volunteers will gain experience in a start-up environment and contribute to the growth of the organization. 

About the Role 

The Communications Support volunteer will be working closely with the Communications Lead to assist in facilitating tasks. 

Essential Responsibilities: 

- The Communications Support volunteer will be responsible for assisting the Communications Lead in day to day tasks
- Assisting with BEBs COP27 external communications (including preparing briefs, finding media opportunities)
- Updating the website
- Assisting in drafting and reviewing communications including newsletters, funding proposals, website content

Qualifications:

- Completed or currently completing a degree, diploma or certificate in Communications is considered an asset
- Previous experience working as a communications coordinator or manager is preferred (Volunteer or professional experience applies)
- Understanding of Communications strategies
- Experience working in a non-profit/start up environment is an asset
- Knowledge and understanding of various website hosting engines (ie. Wix)
- Familiarity with social media and marketing strategies and ability to create attractive and engaging content
- Engaging written and visual communication skills
- Some knowledge of SDGs is an asset
- Previous experience coordinating social media in a sustainable or environmentally focused role
