Classification: Volunteer Reports to: Board of Advisors Time Commitment: 4 hours per week STEM Canada is a registered not-for-profit global program specializing in an advanced, STEM-based educational curriculum emphasizing the interconnected subject areas of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). The STEM program is open to all students from preschool to high school with the mission to deliver top-notch STEM literacy and application, designed to teach students in the STEM fields, yielding globally competitive results Position Purpose: The Volunteer Dean of Medical Sciences—Intermediate Medical Sciences for students aged 8-17 will serve as a key mentor and educational leader. This role guides students in intermediate medical sciences, including Medical Sciences, Histology, Immunology, Pathology, Pharmacology, Toxicology, Endocrinology, and Neuroscience. The Dean will develop and lead hands-on, age-appropriate learning programs, train volunteer instructors, foster curiosity, coordinate virtual learning, and mentor students in their scientific understanding and personal growth. Qualifications: • Commitment to STEM Canada’s mission and values. • Passion for engaging youth in virtual learning. • Proven ability to lead, collaborate, and deliver age-appropriate science content. • Enthusiasm, adaptability, patience, and inclusivity. • Experience in youth-centered medical science programs or related fields. • Supervisory experience with educational staff or volunteers preferred. Essential Job Functions: 1. Educational Leadership and Engagement: • Facilitate engaging virtual learning for students aged 8-17. • Create a positive, inclusive learning environment. 2. Program Design and Facilitation: • Develop age-specific lessons in intermediate medical sciences. • Use interactive methods (simulations, case studies) to enhance learning. 3. Volunteer Training and Mentorship: • Guide volunteers to optimize student engagement. • Share resources and strategies to support learning outcomes. 4. Well-Being and Safety: • Maintain a safe, inclusive online environment. • Ensure compliance with safety and privacy policies. 5. Be a Role Model to Teachers and Volunteers: • Demonstrate ethical conduct and respect within the virtual community. • Promote curiosity and respect in alignment with STEM Canada’s values. 6. Leadership Responsibilities/Tasks: • Act as a main contact for instructors, supporting student engagement. • Oversee volunteer preparedness and program alignment with goals. • Lead virtual meetings and address challenges in real time.
