STEM Canada is a registered not-for-profit global program specializing in an advanced,STEM-based educational curriculum emphasizing the interconnected subject areas of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). The STEM program is open to all students from preschool to high school with the mission to deliver top-notch STEM literacy and application, designed to teach students in the STEM fields, yielding globally competitive results. Location: Remote Time commitment: 4 hours per week Position Type: Volunteer Position Overview: The Genetics and Genomics Teaching Assistant (Volunteer) supports faculty in teaching undergraduate and graduate-level genetics and genomics courses, conducting laboratory sessions, and assisting students with course material. Key Responsibilities: • Conduct and supervise genetics and genomics laboratory sessions • Teaching lectures and associated lab classes • Prepare equipment, materials, and software for specific labs and computational exercises • Grade assignments, lab reports, and exams • Hold regular office hours to assist students • Maintain laboratory safety and cleanliness • Assist in preparing course materials and lab exercises • Support students in bioinformatics tasks and genomic data analysis Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in Genetics, Genomics, Molecular Biology, or a related field; Master's degree preferred • Strong knowledge of genetics and genomics principles and laboratory techniques • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills • Previous teaching or tutoring experience is a plus • Ability to explain complex genetic concepts clearly to diverse audiences • Proficiency in using laboratory equipment and bioinformatics tools • Familiarity with genomic databases and analysis software Benefits: • Gain valuable experience in content moderation and community management. • Play a vital role in fostering an inclusive online environment for STEM enthusiasts. • Access networking opportunities with educators, industry professionals, and like- minded individuals. • Receive a Certificate of volunteering for your contributions to STEM Canada's mission SMAC is strongly committed to equity and diversity within its community.
