Volunteer Board Member for the Alberta Lymphedema Association Board of Directors

6-10 hours / quarterly
3 Year Term
The Alberta Lymphedema Association is seeking an individual with a strong foundation in Governance to act as a Board Member/Director on ALA’s Board of Directors.

Responsibilities (for all Board Directors): 
•	An understanding of governance
•	Effective written and oral communication skills
•	Knowledge of good financial management practices
•	Demonstrated team building skills
•	Proficient computer skills including social media platforms
•	Experience in an advocacy role (deemed to be an asset, but not a requirement)
•	Event planning skills
•	Health sector experience

As a Board, we strive to collectively have the following critical skills:
•	Fund Development
•	Governance 
•	Marketing / Communications (including media relations and advertising) 
•	Organizational Development (including strategic planning)
•	Program/Project Development and Management
•	Past Board Experience
•	Past Committee Experience 

Qualifications for this position:
•	Experience in volunteer and/or non-profit sector;
•	Specific experience with Board Governance, Board policy development and enactment
•	Knowledge of healthcare, specifically lymphedema, preferable, but not required 
•	Commitment to a three-year term and drive to create positive change in the community

Please Note: This is a three-year commitment. We are looking for someone who is driven to create positive change in the community and who is interested in working, learning, and collaborating with other Board Members. We recently had a Board Member complete her final term with the Board after many wonderful years, so we are now seeking your Governance experience to help us continue to create positive change.
Certification or Education Required
Knowledge of healthcare, specifically lymphedema, preferable, but not required

Along with the rest of the Board, you will be making a difference for patients and enabling medical personnel to help them. Be part of a team that can make lives better for people living with lymphedema. We have been instrumental in getting treatment for lymphedema paid by Alberta Health Services. We have hosted seminars and talks for patients, medical personnel, industry professionals and the public.
